ALL TOO HUMAN
BY JAIME ROMO
A DRAMATISED PLAY READING
In 1889 Friedrich Nietszche suffered a breakdown, and after being interned in a psychiatric clinic, was locked in a darkened room in the family house.
The play covers the days up to a meeting which will result in a judgment as to whether he is sane enough to retain control over his canon of work, or whether it will be administered by his sister.
His friends Franz Overbeck, a professor of theology, and Lou-Andreas Salomé a glamourous former student, conspire to ensure that he appears to be sane when he appears before the judge, while his sister Elizabeth aided by the evil Doctor Moebius attempt to ensure the opposite.
Meanwhile Nietzsche himself appears oblivious of his impending fate as he lapses into childhood memories, and declaims on the future of the human race, his only fear light from the open window and his greatest desire to be united with Lou Salomé.
