We enjoyed Mother Goose but we think it laid a curate's egg rather than the advertised golden one.
The good bits were Squire Jasper which was magnificently over-acted and the smaller of his two helpers who had terrific pseudo-gangster gestures. The singing was great this year, especially the children and the backing chorus. Mother Goose was well acted, but consequently too well acted for a pantomime - I was longing for something more expansive, maybe even more camp but it never came. The appearanc eof the Duquesa de Alba was a hoot!
Not so good was the script which didn't sparkle this year. I recognised one joke from two years ago and the egg jokes were simply egg-sessive. There was also a notable absence of double entendre but some of the new puns were good.
Although this year's production is still not even behind you I'm already looking forward to a better panto next year.
